About Tris Hussey & MapleLeaf 2.0

Tris Hussey by Kris KrugAs a life-long geek of many colours (science, tech, rocks, photography), I love the chance to let my colours shine here at b5media. What do I do here? Couple things, really. First and foremost I’m the Training Manager helping the bloggers, CEs, and the rest of the Content team with all their training needs. Like the rest of the b5 team I also have a few blogs (only three now which is pretty surprising). I’ve been blogging for what seems like a long time now, four years now. My personal blog is A View from the Isle, which started off on Blogger (ick) and was something to help me break the boredom of selling market research to pharma companies. Here on b5 I express my passion for tech and Web 2.0 at MapleLeaf 2.0 a blog covering all that’s hot on the Canadian tech scene (with an eye towards the Web 2.0 world). When my fellow Canadians aren’t creating new and cool things, I cover and offer my own quirky opinion on all facets of tech. My newest blog is Manscaping 101 a guy’s view on getting a good shave, smelling great, and all done with a bit of humour as well. My personal blog has morphed from a platform and soapbox on tech to a photoblog as my passion photography has moved from casual to semi-professional. Tris and b5 team In my past, I worked for over 7 years in the pharma industry doing eBusiness and such. Lots of websites, lots of lawyers, lots of fun. Before that well … okay Ill start a bit farther back. When I finished my Masters at UMaine in Quaternary Studies I went to work at Duke University running a paleoecology lab. About a year into that I realized that I had hit the top rung of my career ladder, without going back to school for a Ph.D. that is, coupled with some spats with my Professor over who got to play with the new toys first, I decided to start all over again. I quit my job and started at the bottom doing tech support for the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences. That’s where I learned HTML (hand coding back then) and started on my way to be the geek that I am today. I moved to Canada in 1998 (thank you pharma industry) and out to British Columbia in 2000. I’ve been a telecommuter ever since then. I live in beautiful Victoria (the provincial capital). If you have any tips or tidbits on Canadian tech (or any other Web 2.0 goody) or a cool grooming tip, drop me a line at tris [at] b5media.com.
