Blogging for A Fee

by Mark Evans on July 29th, 2006

Jason Calacanis caused quite the stir recently when he offered top bloggers writing for Digg and Reddit a cool $1,000 a month to switch over to Netscape’s new Digg-like site. One of the people who was solicited was Toronto-based Derek van Vliet (hat trip to Mark Glaser), a highly-ranked Digg contributor (BloodJunkie), who decided to take the offer. There has been a lot of consternation about blogging for a fee, probably because too many people believe blogging is an altruistic activity. Truth be told, blogging for a fee is fine as long as there is transparency about what you’re doing and why. As long as everyone knows the rules of engagement, then no one should have an issue.
