Hoosgot the answers? We do, through Twitter and blogs.

by Tris Hussey on December 31st, 2007

David Sifry isn’t a guy to just sit idly by and watch the Interweb, you knew he had to have something up his sleeve.  Yesterday he tweeted that something was coming and quickly followed with a tweet to this post: Sifry’s Alerts: Announcing Hoosgot: Resurrecting the Lazyweb.

What is Hoosgot? First think of it as "who’s got" and that will get you over the first hurdle.  Next is how it works.  You tweet or post something like "hoosgot recommendations for sushi in Vancouver" and the question appears on the Hoosgot website and Hoosgot Twitter stream.  People then either respond on the post or via Twitter to your question.

I posted a question about Canadians going to DEMO 08 and haven’t seen any responses as yet.  The test will come after New Year’s.  A tweet has already come through asking how to manage the data flow from Hoosgot.  After this new shiny toy bit I think the random clutter will slow down and real stuff will start showing up.

Very interesting intersection of Twitter, blogs, RSS and crowd-sourced knowledge.

If nothing else, I think this shows that David is still in the game.

Update: Just after I hit publish on this post (it’s set to go live in a few hours) Marshall Kirkpatrick hit the nail on the head with his latest in library posts.  Librarians are a key information resource for us knowledge seeking Bedouins-and I think that Hoosgot makes all of us "librarians" of sorts to the world.
