iBegin For Charity
iBegin, which recently updated its Web site, has launched a new charity program. For every review or photograph added to the site between Aug. 28 and Oct. 15, iBegin will donate 50 cents to charity. It’s a nice win-win proposition: iBegin gets the content it needs to build its service to find local restaurants, events and businesses in Toronto, while charity gets nice late-summer boost.

They are hoping for 50,000 articles and photos, for $.50 each? Wow, what a great deal - for them.
Try 25% of long term profits (assuming its an ad driven site) and it might be interesting. Otherwise, in the age of collaborative contributed content on sites like wikipedia, it would make more sense for someone to just donate their pocket change rather than spend the time contributing to a random site’s content.
I’m against corporate subsidized charity - essentially, it means more padding in the profits to buy goodwill. People should make their own charity decisions, and let commercial organizations focus on providing a good product at a good price in a competitive market.

David - I can understand your view against corporate subsidized charity, but there are a few things you overlook.
1. This is a specific charity we are donating to. I state this because of the pocket change comment - we are targetting a specific area of need (abused women), helping increase awareness, and getting them some money.
2. We do focus on a good product (welcome to try us), and we also do our own private charity.
3. We may be a corporation, but only for legal purposes :). Our staff is pretty small, and we even have a philosophy: http://www.ibegin.com/philosophy/ How many evil-corporate types have that :)
Anyway, I do ask you to take a look through our bloog - we are definitely not your typical corporation.
