Office Space Alternatives

As b5media becomes “more corporate” , one of the next things on the checklist is moving from our home offices into a real office so we can start to look and feel like a real company. Of course, it’s not an easy process because you have decide what kind of space you want, where you want to be located and how much you want to pay. For many start-ups, another question that should be addressed is why you need an office and whether it’s worth the investment (desks, chairs, telephone systems, etc.). An alternative for those not sure about getting a full-fledged office is moving into shared space. The Financial Post has a story (unfortunately, it’s stuck behind the walled garden) in today’s Entrepreneur section about a shared space in downtown Toronto called the Indoor Playground, which provides entrepreneurs and companies with a way to get an office (on a daily, weekly or monthly basis). Created by Mark Dowds, the facility offers desks, meeting spaces, a telephone system, Internet access, data storage and hosted e-mail. Indoor Playground is also a nice way for Dowds to market his early-stage venture business, Creationstep.
