Rogers Wireless Rockin’
With Canada’s wireless market not even close to 60% penetration, there’s still plenty of strong subscriber growth left for the big three (Rogers, Telus and Bell). Today, Rogers said fourth-quarter wireless sales jumped 20%. “These subscriber and financial results combine to represent one of our best quarters ever,” CEO Ted Rogers said in a conference call. “We’re targeting more of the same in 2007.”
In 2006, Rogers added 610,000 wireless subscribers, and it expects to add another 500,000 to 600,000 additions for this year. The business is not only being fueled by voice revenue but sales of video clips, ring tones, mobile e-mail and games, which now account for more than 10% of overall wireless sales. IDC Canada forecasts the wireless data market will nearly triple to $3.2-billion by 2010.
