Maple Leaf 2.0 - Technology and Web 2.0 News in Canada

The Plan for ‘07

by Mark Evans on January 3rd, 2007

Maple Leaf 2.0 was launched about six months as a way for me to learn more about using Wordpress and highlight the companies and entrepreneurs within Canada’s online and Web 2.0 communities. To date, I’m still trying to learn more about using Wordpress and ways to make Maple Leaf 2.0 more useful and valuable. I truly believe there’s a lot of activity happening in Canada but Canadian entrepreneurs need to do a better job of waving the flag. In other words, they need to stand up once in awhile and tell the world what they’re doing. At the same time, I hope to get more plugged in to the Web 2.0 community. Here’s hoping for an interesting and busy blog.

Mark, we were so close to holding that meeting on the Danforth regarding this very subject. I assume the arrival of Elias had a lot to do with that.

Let’s get this initiative going again. 10-20 influencential people meeting to discuss promoting Canadian Web 2.0 stories/companies.

    Thoughts?

    Best,

My partners at netus and I are working currently on developing a strategy to promote web 2.0 in Canada. This means not only increasing the awareness of the technologies available to connected Canadians, but also promoting entrepreneurs. Conferences like Mesh are essential but we are working on trying to round up some of the influential entrepreneurs and creating a collective message on how to best promote user generated content.

Dave, hopefully Mark can put together an informal gathering where all of us can brainstorm solutions to this issue.

We have a massive market sitting south of the border. We can attack it individually or create a concerted effort.

    Either way, tick-tock Mark.

Let’s see. I’ve been running a column on entrepreneurship in PROFIT Magazine for four years and have heard from maybe two 2.0 companies in that time. I have been running a blog (”Canadian Entrepreur”) for nearly two years and the only press releases I’ve received have come from a few savvy Americans.
2.0 companies want media coverage? They could try doing their homework.
My new column in the Financial Post will burn thru story ideas fast, so let me know what’s up… at Rick (at) rickspence.ca
