Twemes takes the clutter from Twitter and makes a meme tracker
I got home and checked out Rebecca’s live blogging from DemoCampVancouver05 just in time to catch mentions of a new Vancouver-based service-site called #Twemes:

Rochelle is presenting about a mashup and as you may be able to guess, it’s a Twitter - meme. Basically it’s global tagging for Twitter.6:17
Oh that part about guessing it’s a Twitter meme? That would have been more useful if I told you what the demo was about: Twemes.com. Anyone can include a “#” to tag your tweet so people can follow (and you can follow) specific topics. While I missed out on getting out of the gate first, props to Mashable and Download Squad for getting them some attention, I did a little experiment this morning. I posted a tweet using #twemes then went to twemes and did a search for it:
As you can see, it appeared pretty much as fast as I could search. Note the RSS icon as well. I’m now tracking mentions of #twemes in RSS–which should be fun.
Serious props to Rochell and Geoffrey for building something that I think will become a smash hit at SXSW and every other conference this year. We all like to follow the Twitter backchannel during conferences, but following all the people is nearly impossible. Then there is the conference twitter ID, which is sometimes not updates or really followed…now if people start using #conference (sorry I still think of it as “pound” not “hash”–my mom used it on grocery lists. “Mom, number 3 of hamburger? Huh?”, “Pound, Tris, pound”.)
Meme tracking is always a fun part of the old interweb and with Twitter giving us instant info, well I figure that we could be on the verge of something really fun.
Hmm, now which memes to follow?
