Who’s TrueLocal?
Anyone heard of TrueLocal, a local search engine that currently indexes more than 13 million local businesses and 50 million local web page? It turns out the company is based in Guelph, Ont. The company’s president, Jake Baillie, recently appeared on a MarketingMonger’s podcast. TrueLocal is only focused on businesses and government listings so don’t go there expecting to do people searches, residential phone searches or residential address searches. According to the company’s Web site, TrueLocal “has an intuitive design and navigation system which makes looking for dentists, restaurants, car dealers and lawyers as easy as apple pie. While users generally search for any type of business, product, or service, popular full text searches include dim sum, cabernet sauvignon, defense lawyer and teeth whitening.”

Unfortunately, most of the time I hear about TrueLocal it’s in a negative context because of their arbitrage practices like this no-content made-for-ads page.
