Maple Leaf 2.0 - Technology and Web 2.0 News in Canada

“You Get It”

by Mark Evans on July 12th, 2006

As part of Microsoft’s campaign to promote Windows Live, Phil Holden, the director of Windows Live, has been hanging around Toronto this week. Tonight at the funky Gladstone Hotel ultra-cool Drake Hotel, Microsoft will be hosting a cocktail party for “Canadian bloggers” and a lot of “Web 2.0″ people. It’s nice to be invited but I had to laugh at the e-mail that Microsoft’s P.R. agency sent out. It started like this: “We need you. Why? Because you get it. That’s why I’m inviting you and a few other like-minded people to our exclusive Windows Live Linkup event.” I’m flattered that Microsoft thinks I “get it” but apparently they think a lot of other people get it too given the fact the same e-mail went out to a bunch of other people. And I thought I was special……:)…Windows Live, by the way, is Microsoft’s platform to migrate its software portfolio from the desktop to the Web in a way where they are tightly integrated. Jon Arnold attended the event last night and provides his take on the proceedings.

when it comes to marketing windows live, i think microsoft thinks we’re all special. i suspect you won’t be turned down if you arrive at the drake at about 6 p.m. and gush about your interest in live!

    Hey Michael,

I never got an invite either. Ah well, I live on the other side of the country anyways. It would probably be a ’slight’ hassle to attend a one-night Microsoft schmooze-fest ;)

    HI there,

Microsoft’s PR girl here… gutted about the invite. But I am having a good chuckle at your post. (difficult to communicate laughing through a comment…) Hope you come tonight regardless of the invite. We’ll get it right eventually… But at least we’re having a party :)

    Cheers, Sarah

[…] Apparently Microsoft thinks that the TorCamp regulars are so cool really get it they’re willing to pay to put us all in a room with an open bar and then not give a presentation of any sort.  Interesting approach to industry relations, but I’m not complaining.  I think we’re cool get it too.  commandn firefox radiant core rocketboom torcamp […]
