ZipLocal Launches
Remember RedToronto.com, the site that tried to muscle into the local search market and also - for some bizarre reason - published a paper-based directory? Well, the service has been completely overhauled and relaunched as Ziplocal.com. The service, which is currently in beta, lets you search for the product or service that you’re seeking and the specific location.

It can’t be any worse than RedToronto was. Although right now my first impression is that it is a cluttered, slow, mess of a site. For their sake I hope they can pull it together during the beta period.
What mapping API are they using? Seems very blurry to me.

Ah RedToronto - advertising on anything that moved.
Look in the JS to find their mapping API - I go so far as to say that the mapping system is crap (I blogged about what they are doing wrong and right on my blog).

redToronto.com had waaaay better search functionality and was much more esthetically attractive than ziplocal. It’s not a keyword driven site anymore. The huge map on the search results page is totally uncalled for with local search. They’ve reduced the number of listings per page so you have to keep clicking and waiting for more results. The informative banners they used to display are gone too. I won’t be using it.

ZipLocal is a wonderful new version of database for buyers to find suppliers. It is a great place to find the most local business to you. Better than any local phone book and its easy and fast. I recently needed a plumber and used this service I was able to call a plumber and the closest one in my neighborhood was able to fix my toilet issue in one hour. I will continue to use this site. kind of reminds me of the old zip 411 which was a useful site and I read something that ziplocal is part of zip411. Whatever folks give it a try its worth your time.

Sounds like Susan works for Zip because anyone in the right mind can plainly see that redToronto’s functionality way far superior. With redToronto you could search for “restaurants bloor street west” and it would serve up restaurants in that area. With Zip you get an error page. Why the new owners can’t see the value of true search functionality is beyond me. Finding a plumber or any other business online is not difficult. Finding a resource that serves up comprehensive and relevant results with relevant information on the same page for each, is. Whatever.

I would also guess that Susan worked for Zip411 before too.

yes I worked there and I have since changed my opinion the management really are deceitful as well as the telemarketing scammers they still have in their employ - terrible environment to work in.
when you work with people that would steal from the poor and lie through their teeth you discover that they would lie about you too. I blame management though they are a vindictive bunch and they still have these criminals working there.
Yeah thats all of you nasty witches you all know who you are. Janet, Kelly, Rita, Valerie - I got something to say to you dear. Go
